Clemens, Flint, Bay City, Muskegon and Marquette, among others. He took a job with Ford Motor Co. in 1970 and continued to play part time, retiring in 2000. The early ‘70s were spent playing Southern rock with “Alive And Well,” then returning to pop with “Good and Plenty.” A couple of years off in the ‘80s were followed by 11 years with the country band, “Nighthawk.” In ’99, the “Gary Holmes Band” was formed to play electric blues. A CD – “I Got The Blues But I’m Not Crying” – came out in 2000. After some time out for missionary work in Australia in ’01 and ’02, Gary joined “The VooDoo Doctors.” His solo material is eclectic and covers blues, country, swing, rock, folk and ballads.

Connor Garvey & Jeff Karoub - Friday, September 10th
Jeff's pop-folk sensibility comes with some sonic extras, courtesy of his classical training and musical lineage. His father is a Detroit Symphony Orchestra veteran and Motown session man behind the killer French horn lick at the top of Marvin Gaye's 'I Heard it through the Grapevine.' Jeff made sure that little history lesson made its way into 'Made by Motown,' a soulful homage he wrote that became a finalist in a theme-song competition for AJ's Assembly Line concert in 2010. The violinist and guitarist is a professional journalist by day and lives in Dearborn with his wife, three daughters and dog. Connor Garvey's songs are like placing folk-funk guitar & ukulele, soulful vocals, and paradoxical metaphors in a juicer- you've never tasted it before, but it's intriguing and delectable so you have to keep drinking. His clever rhythmic guitar and ukulele foundations provide a medium for his most prominent instrument, his voice. His songs draw the attention of the whole room with humor, daring honesty, and grace.

Simple Joy - Saturday, September 11th
Hailing from various parts of Ontario Canada, Simple Joy is amorphous, and often contains Leah Morise, Mike Bourgeault, Jim Polinski and occasional special guest appearances by Peter Cook, Steve Clark and Burt Hammer. Fire Starter - Friday, September 17th
Mark Rucker composes and records his own music and performs with his co-pilot Sarah on guitar. His songs contain mostly textured keyboard sounds, with sax, guitar and computer-generated voices adding solo lines. His music is as diverse and hard to classify. On Rucker's new CD, four consecutive tracks go from funky soul to distorted rock to cool hip-hop to smooth, slow jazz. A life long area resident and musician Mark started his solo act in the 90's and has continued his passion writing and performing his music for anyone interested in his intriguing sound.

Double D Blues Band - Saturday, September 18th

The Double D Blues Band has been playing together for about 5 years now and we consist of 2 guitar players with over 30 years experience each playing the guitar. We record all of our back up music like bass and drums and upload them to a laptop which we then pump thru the P.A. and jam to it. We have been told that we sound like a four piece band and our arrangements make us sound very slick and polished for 2 people. We play a mixture of classic blues tunes and some original blues songs as well. Jim (The Reverend Boogie) Domin plays the guitar and does back up vocals as well as being sound man and recording engineer for all of the back up tracks. Brian (Big Daddy) Dimick plays guitar, bass, harp with a rack and sings. We both previously played in a 5 piece variety band for about 15 years before forming a duo as The Double D Blues Band. We recently played at The Ferndale Blues Festival and we are both members of The Detroit Blues Society. For more information go to our website www.myspace.com/theddbluesband

Emory and Dave - Thursday, September 23rd
Born and raised Port Huron, Michigan, Emory’s dream of writing and singing his own songs began when he was a youngster listening to the radio and 30 years of playing music written by other people only fueled the passion. With lyrics that clearly reflect the highs and the lows of his own personal experience, Emory weaves emotionally honest vocals around simple acoustic guitar chords to create a vivid image of life changing moments that everyone can relate to. When the rhythm of music touches our heart, we can feel the vibration of the life force within. Come and experience the positive energy generated by the presence of good people, inspired music and the esthetically rich atmosphere of the Raven. Come and listen to the original songs of Emory.

Though they share much in common, each brings a unique sound and presence to their performances.

David Faley - Thursday, September 30th
David Faley is a singer-songwriter with years of diverse experience, as diverse as his musical influences (Beatles, Dylan, Van Morrison, Bo Diddley, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Webb—just to name a few). Beginning as a college student in Louisiana, wandering the mountains of the West, singing in restaurants and bars, raising a family in Michigan as a church musician and singer, playing bass and guitar—no matter what he was doing, Dave was always developing melodic, harmonic and lyrical ideas and filtering his experiences through the prism of his music. Since the summer of 2009, however, his creativity has suddenly caught fire, having caused him to compose over 50 new songs.“I feel a little like Robin Williams in Awakenings,” Dave says. “All of a sudden I’m presiding over all these characters and stories that have suddenly returned from the dead or come alive…what a pleasant surprise!” Whether he sings his own songs or those of others, whether he sings about love, hope and freedom or betrayal, pain and loss, his music is real. And Dave is hoping his music can be your music, too.
